Animal lovers and film enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The Animalis Fabula Film Festival (#AniFab24) is back with an extraordinary lineup of films that celebrate the human-animal connection and address pressing animal welfare issues. Held at the AMC Theatre in RiverCenter Mall, San Antonio, this two-day event promises an unforgettable cinematic experience.
This year, the festival boasts more than 30 captivating films, including narratives, documentaries, and animated shorts from talented filmmakers worldwide. Highlights include:
- Dolphin Summer (Texas Premiere): Follow the heartwarming journey of a young woman discovering her passion for marine conservation. Shot in San Antonio, the screening will include a Q&A with the filmmakers, featuring local talent Kyliegh Nikkels and director Robin Conly.
- The Animal Thing (Texas Premiere): A thought-provoking documentary about Dr. Andrew Linzey, a pioneer in animal rights ethics. Don’t miss the accompanying workshop on animal ethics in media, hosted by Dr. Linzey and his son, Adam.
- The Sympawnies (USA Premiere): Renowned Israeli artist Noam Oxman combines music and animal artistry in a live performance before the festival’s awards ceremony.
- Watson (Special Screening): Dive into the mind of Captain Paul Watson, the legendary Whale Warrior, through this gripping documentary by Lesley Chilcott.
- PotenDogs (Texas Premiere): Experience the first episode of an English-language adaptation of the hit Korean animated series by AniFab’s own Festival Director, Tom McPhee.
- Beyond the Herd (San Antonio Premiere): Celebrate the lives of Mexican-American equestrians Amber and Isidro, as filmmaker Michelle Fenn explores the rhythm of ranch life and wild horses.
Many of these screenings will include the filmmakers in attendance, offering festival-goers a chance to engage with the creative minds behind these inspiring stories.
A Global Gathering
This year’s event welcomes nearly 20 filmmakers from across the U.S. and abroad, including Tunisia, the UAE, and the UK. With so many Texas premieres, #AniFab24 is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the global perspective of the human-animal bond.
Special Thanksgiving Weekend Celebration
Festival Director Tom McPhee invites San Antonio to start the holiday season with a festive celebration of animals through film. “#AniFab24 has something for everyone,” McPhee says.
“From heartfelt narratives to impactful documentaries, we’re showcasing the power of storytelling to inspire change and compassion.”
